Anyone out there who runs a small business will understand that providing a service comes with a cost. You have to be smart about what you really need to run efficiently and keep overheads low.

At Sugarflick, we use Stripe for online bookings and GoCardless for memberships – both charge fees, just like a card machine. We do not sell products in-house, and all treatments are prepaid (either by BACS or online when booking). This keeps no-shows away and helps us stay organised. A card machine would just collect dust – we just would not use it.

Do we take cash?
We are huge fans of online banking, Monzo, easy on a phone and so quick, although you can deposit cash at a post office. However, this is something we just do not have time for.

We are aware that older people really struggle with apps but our older customers are happy with online banking or booking via our online system. We don’t take cash either as this would mean leaving cash on site until it could be banked and trying to find a bank still open is another challenge.
