Getting a back wax in a heatwave

published under sugar facts on August 16th 2026

Male first-timers
Please note that when we say a back wax (because it’s what most people know it as) we are referring to male hair removal of the back area. At Sugarflick, we do not use wax; we use sugar, even better because it is a natural product. If you want to know the difference, you can read more here.

By the time the sun is going down, your body has had the whole day to heat up, meaning your skin is hot too. Even if you arrive having spent the day in any kind of air con, removing hair from a hot body is trickier at the end of the day than the start.

sun sets after the eve of the eclipse

Come morning, your skin has had all night to cool. Even if you feel it’s been too hot to sleep ~ yep, the other night was hotter than a night baker’s armpit, wasn’t it just vile? Believe it or not, you’ll still be cooler than you were at bedtime. The skin has had some rest. Morning appointments mean a better result and less trauma to the skin too.

If you come in, say, after 1 pm, we’ll likely have to add time to your slot to cool the area down. We haven’t had heat like this before, and it has been a challenge, even with air con. We’ve learnt that cooling the skin down when it’s 37 degrees outside is not that easy. Of course, this also depends on the body, where it has been in the day, diet, hydration, and more; we’re all individuals after all.

For example, if you are a gent who has been coming for a while, it may not be as much of a concern, but if you are a new gent, we strongly recommend a morning appointment. It’s your skin’s first time, and it will thank you for it, and so will we.

A few things to bear in mind when booking

  • If you are unable to find a morning slot, please get in touch; sometimes we can shuffle things
  • Drink lots of water every day
  • Follow our aftercare, sent once your booking is confirmed
  • Wear loose, breathable clothing to wear home
  • Don’t book a back or even a chest wax, right before a holiday

If you can plan a couple of treatments with us, or elsewhere, having 2 or 3 back waxes throughout the year means your skin gets used to it. It is not essential, but with the high temperatures we are now getting we feel this is good advice.
