During the pandemic and with no date to open our salon again, I had to do something else for Sugarflick to survive. I got to work on a product that I had been working on for a while and felt that now was a good time.

The long-term plan is to be able to supply other salons with sugar paste but one step at a time, let’s start with the product that you can buy from here

What is this new product?

We called it The Top Lip Kit, a box containing all you need to remove unwanted facial hair. The kit contains a sugar paste made from British Sugar, (sugar beet), water and lemon, that is it. In the kit is one of the pastes we use in the salon.

We can make 8 different pastes, but have released this particular one for facial hair removal as skin on the face is very sensitive. It has been tried and tested on many of our clients, friends and myself.

Will there be other kits and will you sell to other salons?

Yes is the answer to both but we are not able to say when. We hope to sell a kit for ladies’ legs, pits and also for male backs.

What is in the kit?

We took months to source the powder because we wanted to use a plant-based product. This kit contains rice powder, yep, made from rice. We wanted a luxurious barrier powder as certain areas of the face are very sensitive and delicate. Our barrier powder is dabbed on the skin beforehand and will absorb any moisture.

What do you need to know?

You must NEVER MICROWAVE THIS PRODUCT. Always follow the full instructions

How long will it last?

It depends on your hair type really and previous methods, if any, of hair removal. It also depends on the area you are treating. This pot will last quite a while if you are just seeing to the top lip area, at least 10 applications – for many, that is more than a year’s worth of treatments! Also, bear in mind we are all individuals. If you are tackling chin, top lip and perhaps hobbit toes too, of course it won’t last as long.

Is it natural?

Yes, the sugar paste is 100% natural, vegan, and contains no chemicals or parabens. It is hand-made in Southampton UK, from sugar, water, and lemon. The barrier powder is made from rice and comes in a recyclable aluminum tin. The boxes are made in the UK, and are fully recyclable too. Even the little bags that contain the strips and spatulas can go in the compost bin; the bags are made from plants too.

How safe is it?

This is not a product you’d find on a dodgy FB post, Instagram ad, or something you whip up from a Tik Tok video. We are fully legal and obtained our CPSR (Cosmetic Product Safety Report) before we launched. We worked with a professional testing company for our licence who also work with a very well-known UK High Street brand! shall we say that this is not just any hair removal product, this is a Sugarflick Product!

Our products are registered on the UK cosmetics portal, complete with PIF’s (Product Information Files) ~ we meet all the requirements for cosmetics sold to the public here in the UK. We do not sell overseas.

It was not an easy road with Brexit, cardboard shortages, staff shortages at some of the companies we have used (covid cases), and more, but we kept going, although the challenges to get something to market were enormous.

Because we wanted it all to be a planet-hugging, fully recyclable, as natural as possible, vegan product, it took longer than anticipated ~ but we got there.
