Crack Friday

published under news on November 23rd 2025

Nope that is not a typo above! I call this day Crack Friday because this is how some consumers behaved when it first hit our shores, like they were on crack. People went into a frenzy, who remembers the news, swarms of shoppers running in as the doors opened and were then fighting over a tv? like they were on “crack”. Major retailers like Tesco, John Lewis, and Curry’s jumped on the bandwagon, offering deep discounts that drew eager crowds.

Seriously, if you do not need it don’t buy it, if it’s cheap it is often because the price has been inflated throughout the year and the giants can afford to slash it later, fooling us all!

With the constant stream of sales and ongoing promotions, this can be particularly difficult for some people with ADHD, making it harder to manage impulsive spending. Sales events seem to go on and on with no restriction or timeframe.

It also seems that Black Friday kicks off earlier every year, or is that just me? — one day of deals turned into a weekend, then a week, and now… it’s practically a month-long shopping frenzy, and then we get the Cyber Monday. I don’t have a name for that…yet!

Black Friday is complete nonsense in my opinion, it misses the true spirit of generosity and kindness, that is what Thanksgiving is right? along come the big companies, seeing a window to boost the economy, but it is boosted to mostly folk who cannot afford it, get in debt to have it, when they do not even need it! And not forgetting landfill, that gets really big. I keep reading that 80% of black Friday deals end up in landfill, now that is absolutely dreadful.

I personally am fed up with it, small businesses feel pressurised enough and this “small business beating stick” comes along every year, another challenge in an already hard place to be. Many small businesses are still fighting to recover from the cost-of-living crisis and are also still dealing with the continued challenge of rising business costs. I feel particularly sad when I look around and see other small independents slashing their prices that they cannot afford to do, and so many on social media are doing the same.

We need to continue to support all our small businesses and help them stay in business so they can keep delivering their incredible value across our economy, society and local communities. Please support your locals.

At Sugarflick, we reward clients’ loyalty, all year round. Skilled hands make our Top Lip Kit, that’s 20 years experience in there as well as in your brazilian, hollywood and back wax, I mean sugar! So I will continue to poke fun at this particular time of year with a “naked bottom post” on both instagram and in mail chimp mailouts, basically BF can kiss my ar8e.
